Rick Sowell

Rick Sowell is a native of Three Rivers, TX. He graduated from Three Rivers High School, where he was a standout football player, and went on to become an All-American football player at Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University), playing as a lineman on the 1981 and 1982 National Championship teams.

In 2000, Rick was named to the team’s Hall of Honor. Following college graduation, he coached high school football for many years, with stops in East Bernard, Sinton, Luling, Hallettsville, and Comfort. Upon retirement, Rick and his wife Gretchen moved home to Three Rivers and opened Sowell’s BBQ.

About ten years ago, with the encouragement from Gretchen, Rick picked up the guitar and began playing old classic country music. He continues to love playing his guitar for family and friends.
