People who attend bring their own lawn chairs to sit under the stars by the campfire and listen to the words and wisdom of J. Frank Dobie.

Prior to the program, at 6pm, a meal of chili con carne (the official dish of Texas), Pan de Campo (the official bread of Texas), dessert, and bottled water are served for those who purchase Program + Meal tickets. Beer and wine will be available. 

From 6pm – 6:45pm, live acoustic music is performed on the stage.

What You’ll Need

  • Your own lawn chair, preferably one with cup holders

  • A jacket and, perhaps, a lap blanket in case the weather is chilly after dark

  • Mosquito Spray just in case!


What to Expect

  • Designated Entrances & Exits
    Arrive early! Gates open 5pm

  • Pick up Will Call Tickets at Entrances alphabetically
    by last name. | Sponsors, Friends of Dobie: Participants GATE 2

  • All guests will be required to wear or display a Dobie Dichos
    pin/badge
    while on the grounds. These will be distributed
    as guests enter the grounds.

  • If you leave the grounds perimeter for any reason, you will be
    required to show your pin/badge
    upon reentering the grounds.

  • Dobie Dichos merchandise for purchase

  • Books sales offered by The Twig Bookstore with author autograph opportunities before and after the program

  • Social Hour with complimentary desserts, wine, beer, and coffee
    after the program

  • A wonderful evening celebrating Texas literature, folklore, culture!

It’s time to eat!

We’ll be serving up Chili con Carne, Pan de Campo, and
all the fixins’! Beer and wine available.

Storytelling Begins

Mary Margaret Campbell kicks off the program with a short introduction and the stories begin!

9pm TO 10Pm

Social Hour

Meet and Greet + Music and Complimentary Desserts

Closing Time

Pack up chairs and blankets and exit the grounds.
